Sigra Stadium Redevelopment Nears Completion, Set to Position Varanasi as Sports Tech Hub
The multi-crore overhaul of the Dr. Sampurnanand Sports Stadium in Sigra is in its final stages, promising world-class infrastructure and commercial incubation spaces for sports tech startups.
Varanasi's premier sporting infrastructure is undergoing a futuristic metamorphosis as the redevelopment of the Dr. Sampurnanand Sports Stadium in Sigra enters its final phase. Funded under the Smart City Mission, the modern multi-sports complex will feature an Olympic-size swimming pool, indoor badminton courts, a synthetic running track, and dedicated hostel facilities for budding athletes.
Beyond athletic training, the modernized complex incorporates a dedicated commercial wing designed to incubate sports tech startups and fitness equipment enterprises from across Purvanchal. Municipal authorities envision the hub as a catalyst for employment generation, combining elite athlete training with sports retail and sports science research.
Regional sports officer R.P. Singh stated, 'This facility will bridge the gap between grassroots athletic talent in eastern UP and professional sports management.' With finishing touches currently being applied to the indoor arenas, the grand inauguration is anticipated ahead of the upcoming state youth sports championships.
