Yogi Govt Sanctions Rs 150 Crore for Agro-Processing Hub in Purvanchal to Boost Exports
The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has greenlit a major agricultural infrastructure project near Varanasi to facilitate seamless grading, cold-storage, and export of local GI-certified horticulture produce.
In a strategic push to strengthen the rural economy of eastern Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government has sanctioned an investment of Rs 150 crore for a state-of-the-art agro-processing and logistics hub near the Varanasi-Ghazipur border. Designed to serve as a central aggregation point for Purvanchal's agrarian produce, the facility will feature advanced cold-chain networks, irradiation units, and packaging centers.
The hub will primarily focus on value addition and export facilitation for Varanasi's renowned agricultural GI products, including Langra mangoes, Banarasi green chillies, and local seasonal vegetables. Farmers across Chandauli, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, and Varanasi districts will directly benefit from streamlined supply chains linking local farms straight to international cargo flights out of Babatpur and Lucknow.
Horticulture department officials noted that the facility will minimize post-harvest losses and empower farmer producer organizations (FPOs) to negotiate better market prices. Construction work on the sprawling industrial park is slated to commence next month, with a strict operational deadline set for late next year.
