Uttar Pradesh Government Approves Mega Textile and Handloom Park in Purvanchal to Boost Exports

The Yogi Adityanath cabinet has cleared a major industrial layout near Varanasi under the PM MITRA scheme, aiming to generate 50,000 direct jobs for local artisans and weavers.

In a strategic push for industrial development in eastern Uttar Pradesh, the state cabinet has formally approved the establishment of a mega Textile and Handloom Park in the Sevapuri block near Varanasi. Part of the central government's PM MITRA (Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) initiative, the park spans over 1,000 acres and is designed to provide world-class plug-and-play manufacturing infrastructure.

Famous for its exquisite Banarasi silk sarees, brocades, and intricate handlooms, the Purvanchal region stands to gain immensely from the modern common effluent treatment plants, raw material banks, design studios, and skill development centers housed within the park. State Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi' noted that the project has already attracted expressions of interest from leading textile exporters and domestic apparel brands looking to tap into Uttar Pradesh's skilled artisanal base.

Local weaver cooperatives in Kashi have welcomed the move, highlighting that centralized logistics support and direct access to global supply chains will eliminate middleman exploitation. The state government has also announced subsidized power tariffs and freight concessions for units setting up operations within the Varanasi textile cluster over the next five years.
